Le tissu relève du monde textile. Il est défini comme l’assemblage régulier de fibres ou de fils entrecroisés afin de former une surface homogène et plane. Dans sa mise en forme technique, il répond à des langages spécifiques et complexes. Déplacé dans d’autres domaines, l’usage métaphorique du mot tissu, modélise de nouvelles formes concrètes mais issues des principes même de sa construction.

Le tissu devient alors un mode d’observation et de compréhension du monde. Cette vision globalisante permet de saisir et d’interroger l’organisation humaine, son environnement et ses productions. Penser le monde en terme de tissu, tel est le principe de ce mémoire.

Fabrics come under the category of the world of textile. It is defined as the regular assembly of interlaced fibers or threads to form a homogeneous and flat surface. Formed by this element’s repetition, fabric brings with it the notion of continuity, networking, interlacing. Fabric, in its technical implementation, answers to specific and complex languages. In the context of fields other than that of textiles, the world “fabric” is used metaphorically to model new concrete forms wich nevertheless stem from the very principles of its construction.

Fabric then becomes a method for observing and understanding the world. This all-embracing vision enables us to grasp and question human organization, its environment and its productions. Thinking about the world in terms of fabric is the main idea of this thesis.
